Basement Finishing in Brampton — Drywall & Paint

We handle the drywall and paint portion of basement finishing projects — the phase that turns a framed and roughed-in basement into a finished, painted living space ready for flooring and trim. If you have a general contractor handling the framing, electrical, and plumbing, we plug in cleanly at the boarding stage and hand back a fully painted space.

What's included

  • Vapour barrier inspection before boarding
  • 5/8" board on ceilings, 1/2" on walls (moisture-resistant on any exterior wall)
  • Full taping and finishing to Level 4
  • Primer and two coats of premium latex on walls and ceilings
  • Trim and door painting coordinated with your finish carpenter

Brampton context

Brampton basements have their own challenges. Older Bramalea and Northgate basements are often part-height with block foundation walls that need Delta-membrane and stud walls held off the block before insulation. Newer Springdale, Credit Valley, and Mount Pleasant basements have full-height poured concrete with weeping tile and are much more forgiving. Either way, we insist on a full vapour barrier inspection before we hang board — the number one cause of basement mould we see is drywall installed over a torn or missing poly layer.

Our process

  1. 01

    Vapour check

Inspect poly, tape any gaps, confirm insulation is tight before board goes up.

  2. 02

    Board

Ceiling first, then walls; moisture-resistant board on any exterior-facing surface.

  3. 03

    Tape & finish

Full Level 4 finish, corner beads, all fasteners floated.

  4. 04

    Prime & paint

PVA drywall primer plus two coats of eggshell — plus your ceiling colour of choice.

Signs you need this service

  • Framed basement waiting on drywall and paint
  • Existing finished basement with water damage or dated finishes that needs a full refresh
  • Basement legal-suite conversion needing fire-rated ceilings and STC-rated party walls

Why it matters

A basement is often the largest single addition of living space you can add to a Brampton home without touching the footprint. Getting the drywall and paint stage right — vapour management, moisture-resistant board where it counts, real finish quality — is what separates a basement that stays beautiful for 20 years from one that starts showing problems in year three.

Frequently asked

Do you do the framing and electrical too?+

We focus on drywall and paint. If you don't already have a GC or trades lined up, we can refer trusted framers, electricians, and plumbers we regularly work alongside in Brampton.

How long for a typical Brampton basement?+

800–1,200 sq ft usually runs 2–3 weeks from boarding to final paint, depending on ceiling complexity, bulkheads, and your other trades' scheduling.

Do basement ceilings need to be Type-X fire-rated?+

The area directly under a mechanical room needs 5/8" Type-X for fire separation. Legal secondary-suite basements need full 5/8" Type-X ceilings across the whole suite. Regular finished basements do not — 1/2" is fine, though we prefer 5/8" for sound.

Can you match the finish to the upstairs?+

Yes. We match trim colour, wall paint, and ceiling texture (or lack of texture) so the basement feels like a continuous part of the home, not a bolt-on.
